Foraminal Stenosis

Foraminal stenosis is narrowing of the space available of the spinal nerves to exist from the spinal canal. It could be from debris or other conditions.  This narrowing can cause pain in the arms if narrowing is in the neck OR pain shooting down the legs if the narrowing is in the low back. This type of compression can occur anywhere in the spine where the spinal nerve exists but more common in low back and neck.

How Do I Know if I have Foraminal Stenosis

Symptoms of foraminal stenosis include numbness and tingling felt in the affected area, and into the arms or legs, depending on where the stenosis occurred. If the stenosis is in the lower back the symptoms will be felt in the lower extremities, where as cervical stenosis, or stenosis in the neck will affect the arms, shoulder, and hands. As foraminal stenosis progresses the symptoms will worsen, and could eventually lead to muscular weakness and loss of sensation.
